First PRC of Holland stands in the tradition of historic Christianity. Our faith is rooted in the Bible which we believe to be God’s inspired Word, the fully sufficient guide for faith, worship, and life. Our faith is summarized in the great Christian Creeds handed down to us by the church of the past. As a congregation, we subscribe to the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed, and the Creed of Chalcedon. We believe these historic Christian creeds accurately and faithfully summarize the teaching of Scripture.

First PRC of Holland is a Reformed Christian congregation. This means we trace our spiritual lineage through the Protestant Reformation, a great reform movement through which the Lord renewed His church and brought His people back to the pure fountain of the Scriptures. As a Reformed congregation, we subscribe to the Three Forms of Unity: the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession of Faith, and the Canons of the Synod of Dordt. These Reformed Creeds summarize the biblical teaching that God saves His people, not through their own works, but by grace alone, through the work of Jesus Christ alone. Salvation by grace is an article of faith most dear to our hearts as Reformed Christians, and a source of comfort and joy in all of life.

The warm heart of our faith is best summarized in the first question and answer of the Heidelberg Catechism:

“What is thy only comfort in life and in death? Answer: That I with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Savior Jesus Christ; who, with His precious blood, hath fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly father, not a hair can fall from my heart; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto Him.”
